Expert Advice: Preparing for Your Scottish Adventure

Preparation is the first step of any great journey. At Biggar Adventure, we want to ensure you feel fully informed and confident before you step out into the Scottish wilderness. Whether you are curious about what to pack or how we navigate the local terrain, the following guide covers the essentials so you can focus entirely on the adrenaline and the experience ahead.

Booking & Locations

Where do the activities take place?

We are based in Peebles, meaning the River Tweed and River Clyde are ideally located for our sessions. However, we operate as a mobile provider and travel all over the country to various locations tailored to meet our clients’ needs.

Our trips are bespoke and designed specifically for your group. An average river trip takes around 3 hours, though durations can be adjusted to suit your requirements.

Safety is our priority. We will always try to give as much notice as possible if an activity cannot go ahead—for example, if the river is too high for canoeing or if there are weather warnings for wind. If we have to cancel, we will try to offer an alternative activity or location. If an activity is cancelled by Biggar Adventure, any money paid will be refunded.

Activity Specifics

Generally, two people share a boat, but some of our boats have three seats, allowing us to add a third person if needed.

To ensure safety on the water, we have the following age requirements:

  • River Trips: 10 Years +
  • Lochs and Canal Trips: 4 Years +

What to Bring

Expect to get wet! For this activity, you will need:

  • Old clothing and trainers that you are happy to get wet.
  • A spare change of clothes (just in case).
  • Food and waterproofs.
  • We provide 30-litre barrels (shared between two) for you to keep your belongings dry.

We provide your wetsuit, buoyancy aid, and helmet. You will need to bring:

  • Swimsuit or swim shorts to wear under the wetsuit.
  • Old trainers or boots that can get wet.
  • A towel and a full change of clothes and footwear for afterwards.
